The best of Cephalonia in a day

Don’t waste valuable time, rent a car and go directly to the area of Omala so you can visit the Monastery of Aghios Gerasimos. After paying your respects to the Saint’s relics, go to the Monastery’s church of Panagia (Virgin Mary) and head downstairs to the small underground area where Aghios Gerasimos lived a hermit’s life.

Visit the Robola Wine Co-operative wine-factory next the Monastery of Aghios Gerasimos, taste the Robola the famous Cephalonian white wine, which is mainly produced in the specific region. Head towards Sami and enjoy the natural scenery at the Ainos National Park. At Karavomylos village, just outside the town of Sami, visit the majestic Melissanis cave and get on a boat to tour the cave. Continue the road onto the picturesque settlement of Aghia Efimia, where you will find traditional coffee shops and small tavernas as you stop and rest for a while. Cut through the Pylarou valley and go in search of its peaks so that you can admire Myrtos, the island’s most beautiful beach, from up high.  If you have time on your hands, do not hesitate to go down to the beach for a quick dip in its turquoise waters. Return to Argostoli from the beach road, where you will be enchanted by the scenery of the island’s west coast.
